Job Title: Section 504 Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Dept./School: Instructional Services
Exemption Status: Exempt


Primary Purpose:
Coordinate, facilitate, and manage assigned areas of the Section 504 program. Assess the educational, learning styles and program needs of students referred through Section 504. Work cooperatively with Section 504 Facilitators, Special Education staff, and instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students under Section 504. Assist the Director of Special Education and Section 504 in providing access for all students to programming, supports, and services in Midway ISD.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:
Master’s degree preferred
Valid teaching certificate


Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of Section 504 and Dyslexia
Knowledge of special education referral process including RTI/MTSS
Knowledge of rules and regulations governing Section 504 & Special Education
Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of research-based instructional strategies
Demonstrated respect for and rapport with all educational stakeholders (peers, parents, students, administration, etc.)
Demonstrated ability as a presenter/facilitator
Ability to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Experience:
Three years of teaching experience
Previous evaluation experience preferred
Technology literacy (Internet, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Google docs)


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


Instructional Support
1. Coordinate, facilitate, and manage all assigned areas in Section 504.
2. Provide technical assistance to Section 504 staff and Special Education staff, as needed.
3. Provide technical assistance to campus administrators, faculty, and staff as needed.
4. Facilitate the Section 504 regarding interpretation of evaluation data, development of interventions and accommodations and appropriate placement for students according to district procedures.
5. Provide staff development to assist school personnel in the identification of students who fall under Section 504.
6. Assist classroom teachers with interventions strategies.
7. Consult with parents concerning the educational needs of students that fall under Section 504.
8. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of Section 504.
9. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required by federal and state rules and regulations and district policy and procedures.
10. Promote and develop training/improvement opportunities to ensure exemplary operations of assigned program areas.
11. Facilitate continuous monitoring and improvement of assigned program areas.
12. Assist in the development of forms, procedures, and operating guidelines for Section 504.
13. Maintain strict confidentiality of student information.
14. Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
15. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and campus personnel.
16. Consult with parents, teacher, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
17. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment, including behavioral strategies for students and 504 laws.
18. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
