Job Title: General Maintenance and Travel Vehicle Make Ready Tech

Primary Purpose:
Responsible for implementing, and maintaining, an all-inclusive preventive maintenance program for all district vehicles as well as implementing, and maintaining, an all-inclusive travel vehicle make-ready program.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:
Valid Texas Commercial Driver License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
Valid State of Texas Commercial Vehicle Inspector License or willing to obtain within 180 days of hire.
Successful completion of a pre-employment DOT physical examination and drug screen.


Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must be 18 years of age.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to effectively operate computer software including Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, GPS Software, Fuel Management Software, etc.
Ability to maintain an organized working environment.
Ability to read and provide directions from a map.
Ability to effectively respond to emergencies.
Ability to identify equipment and system failures during routine preventive maintenance inspections.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Perform visual inspection of vehicles and report major defects via daily vehicle inspection reports and verbally to a mechanic or the Assistant Director of Transportation and Operations.
2. Perform oil and oil filter changes, fuel filter changes, and air filter changes on vehicles in accordance with preventive maintenance schedule.
3. Perform all lubrication services on vehicles in accordance with preventive maintenance schedule.

4. Perform minor mechanical maintenance and repairs as directed. May include seat repair, bulb and lens replacement, mirror replacement, windshield wiper replacement, serpentine belt replacement, and hose replacement.
5. Perform routine daily service as directed including checking tire air pressure, checking all fluid levels and fueling buses as needed.
6. Maintain service records for all vehicles in district-provided maintenance software.
7. Maintain logs with current levels of all fluids needed and order as necessary through proper district procedures including engine oil, filters, grease, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid, brake fluid, etc.
8. Maintain professional communication with all staff by routing concerns to the appropriate Transportation personnel.
9. Work together with the District Travel Specialist to ensure all travel vehicles are fully fueled, cleaned, and visually inspected prior to their scheduled departure date.
10. Picks up and delivers vehicles to outside vendors.
11. Operate the school bus as needed with approval from Assistant Director of Transportation & Operations.

12. Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office.

Tools/Equipment Used: Phone, computer, two-way radio, copier, printer, mechanic’s tools, vehicle lift, pressure washer, vacuum cleaner, fuel dispensers
Posture: Kneeling, stooping, bending, laying prone on creepers to view underneath vehicles
Motion: Repetitive hand and arm motions, kneeling, bending, standing
Lifting: Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
Environment: Work mostly inside a mechanic shop; some exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours.
