Job Title: Mental and Behavioral Health Facilitator

Primary Purpose:
Design and facilitate a student support system program that ensures the academic success and emotional, mental, and behavioral growth of our students. The facilitator will collaborate with school and district staff, parents, and outside agencies to provide wrap-around services to students and their families. The facilitator will address early concerns in the counselor/assistant principal offices, and intervene with collaborative efforts with campus staff. He/she will provide professional development to campus and other district employees to meet the changing needs of the student population. The facilitator will help plan and implement mental wellness and SEL activities on the campus.


Qualifications:


Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in an educational/counseling field, social work, or related field.


Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of child development and current mental health concerns

Experience working in a school setting and knowledge of school protocols and policies (preferred)
Ability to determine needs and create tailored interventions
Maintain appropriate documentation
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience working with diverse populations
Calm, patient, and supportive demeanor with students, families, community agencies, and Midway staff
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies with students and families
Expertise in trauma-informed practices
Knowledge and ability to apply restorative interventions and supports
Ability to collaborate with staff, administrators, and other school-based supports
Knowledge of community resources to share with families and students as needed
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:
Three years working with students and families in a variety of settings preferred
Technology literacy

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Provide school-based individual and group supportive interventions to students.
2. Conduct social histories to assess students for substance use, support systems, physical and emotional functioning, barriers to academic performance, peer issues, suicidal/homicidal ideations, and other issues related to a student’s overall well-being.
3. Ensure case management by proper referrals and supports provided at school
4. Collaborate with outside community agencies to provide support and education
5. Maintain accurate documentation and data for PEIMS tracking.
6. Assist with, organize, and coordinate services within the counseling and assistant principal offices
7. Provide students with guidance lessons and supports for addressing social skill development, improving healthy coping skills and decreasing unhealthy coping skills, anger management, conflict resolutions, increasing self-esteem, and general life skills.
8. Provide in-service trainings for teachers and administrators regarding trauma, poverty, mental health diagnoses, substance use, suicide prevention, and other relevant topics.
9. Maintain regular and open communication with parents and guardians, including assistance in creating regular forums for parents and guardians to explore issues important to the community and connecting parents to community resources.
10. Participate on a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, school administrators, teachers, nurses, court-appointed advocates, and probation officers.
11. Oversee monitoring of district reporting mechanisms through technology and follow district protocol.
12. Conduct groups to enhance social development of students and provide peer support in accepting responsibility for their actions, overcoming crises, resolving conflict, improving attendance, decision-making skills, etc.
13. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment, including but not limited to, behavioral strategies for all students, 504 laws, and RTI processes.
14. Consult with parents.
15. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
16. Respond to needs related to job responsibilities, and complete all other duties as assigned.

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
